History of the Friendship Baptist Church and Cemetery
The Friendship Missionary Baptist Church is located on Texas Highway OSR (Old San Antonio Road) 3.2 miles north on FM 2223 in Brazos County, Texas. The church was organized in the late nineteenth century in the Bickham Community. It was located adjacent to the Bickham Cemetery, which is still in use today. The deacons were Ismael Kizee, William Turner, Wiley Bass, Sam Blackwell, and Sam Mitchell.
In 1941, under the leadership of Rev. W. P. Perry, the church and cemetery were moved to the present location on OSR. The church was rededicated July 26, 1942. Deacons at that time were Willie Bell, J. Williams, Ben Adams, Noah Buchanan, and Raymond Mayo. In 2005, Rev. Lawrence Hicks was selected as pastor.
