Note:  Dorothy Gunter Allen Armstrong, a descendant of the Batte Family, gave the Bibles to Sam Sharp, a Rambler member.  Her mother, Mrs. Gunter, devoted an enormous amount of time to her genealogy and traced one line back to the 1100's in England.

Dorothy celebrated her 90 years just last week.

Note:  Dorothy Gunter Allen is in the 1934 Bible note written by her mother, Louise Batte Gunter (Mrs. Percy Glyndon Gunter).  The 1907 Bible shows the marriage of her mother, Louise Batte and Percy Glyndon Gunter in Nov. 1916.

Note:  These Bibles will be given to The Carnegie Center of Brazos Valley History for safekeeping.  They will be stored in the vault there and anyone wanting to view a Bible must telephone Carnegie to reserve a time.

Howell Family Bible Note

On the blank page preceding the page for Marriages:

“I found this old Bible in the attic of my parents old home. It was packed away in a box of old medical books, some of which belonged to my great grandfather, Dr. William Smith Howell and some to my grandfather Dr. Francis Marion Law. As I have the Law Family Bible already, I am going to put the Howell Family Record in this one and call it the old Howell Bible and pass it on to our daughter, Dorothy Louise Gunter Allen (Mrs. Nat Burtis Allen, Jr.) and her children. The records herein are true to the very best of my knowledge.”

                                                (Signed) Louise Batte Gunter
                                                            (Mrs. Perry Glyndon Gunter)

At the top of the page of Marriages:

“I do not know that this is the Family Bible of my great grandfather, Dr. William Smith Howell.”
